Sashiko with Michelle Cooper

When? Date(s) - 27th August 2011
Time (24h Format) - 10:00 - 16:00
Time (12h Format) - 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Join us for some oriental hand sewing.

Participants will need to bring:

  • A Fat Quarter of a plain dark cotton fabric.  If you have any with a fairly loose weave that would be perfect but ordinary cotton fabric is fine.  Batik fabric is not suitable as the weave is too tight.
  • A Fat Quarter of the same fabric or an ‘ugly fabric’ for backing (this will not show in your finished item)
(It will save you time if these are pressed and tacked together all around the edge, across the middle and corner to corner both ways)
  • Quilting Rulers – whatever size you have will be useful
  • Removable Fabric marker pen/pencil – whichever you are happiest using – that will show up on your dark fabric
  • Scissors
  • Sashiko Needles or cotton darners (only if you have some)*
  • Sashiko Thread (only if you have some)*
  • Thimble – if you usually use one for hand quilting
  • Your lunch – and a mug for drinks

*These are not easy to get locally and I will have a good supply with me (the parcel has arrived in the UK and is currently with ParcelForce).  Until I see the quantity and calculate the exchange rate I cannot give an exact price for the thread but it will only be a pound or two.

I will have plain navy fabric with me if you need to buy some.

I may also have some Sewline marker pencils (subject to demand between now and then).

If anyone has any queries please contact me on 01304 202270 or email michelle@thefabric
