Use ready cut 2 ½” Jelly Roll ™ strips or cut your own from your stash.

You will need lights and darks/mediums so there is a contrast between your spool and the background.

Depending on how large the quilt will be (these are 6” blocks), you will need about 2.5m of background fabric for one Jelly Roll. However you will probably have some lights in the roll, so check this first as it might mean you need less background fabric.

I have sewn this quilt as a scrap quilt and used a selection of different light fabrics for my background, that way it did not matter if I ran out of one, as there were others to be used.

All fabrics can be pre cut before the class into 2 ½” strips, (to save time on the day if you like) as the whole block is based on this width of fabric strip.
