Trapping Colour, Catching Light with Barbara Weeks

What?	Create felt, incorporating wool and lustrous silk fibres and use silk sheers to create overlays of colour and pattern and stitch the layers, by hand or machine. A contemporary take on the traditions of Quilt making; we will create wool wadding to incorporate colour and design and use overlays of dyed silks to produce a small quilt. Ideas gained will transform your concept of a quilt! This is a ‘hands on’ fun workshop for all levels. Bring an inspirational picture to guide your choice of colour, line and texture, or borrow one of mine. Barbara can supply the following, cost approx £5- 10 depending how productive you are: Wool and silk fibres. Net for felting & Olive soap Dyed Silk Organza, chiffon, habotai But of course you are welcome to bring any of these that you may have. Commercial silk scarves are fine. Participant requirements: For Felt Making: Plastic surface to cover table Old towel Bubble wrap 75×50 cm (30”x 20”) approx Rolling pin (pastry), plastic tube or wooden broom handle, 40cm (15”) Rubber gloves (not disposable) For Stitching: Threads for stitching by hand or machine Sewing machine. (Needed for cut back appliqué.) General sewing kit, pins, scissors. Notebook & camera For Group Share: Irons & boards.
