Vignettes in Needle Felt and Stitch with Sam Beresford

A vignette is a small picture with blurred edges or a soft -focus effect. For this workshop we will create a small landscape design using wool fibres needle felted to the background (calico) and enriching the design and creating detail with thread and simple stitches. Our tutor will demonstrate how to use wool carders to show how to mix the colours of wool for subtle effect and also how to use an embellisher machine to felt the background wool to the calico.

What you need to bring with you:

• A small ring frame with stand if you prefer
• A piece of calico to fit your chosen frame
• Any wool fibres you have (Sam will be bringing a big selection for you to use if you don’t have any)
• An idea or photo or picture from a magazine of a landscape that you may want to use as inspiration
• A selection of threads – stranded cotton, perle, tapestry wool even fine sewing cottons in landscape colouring? Sam will have a selection with me that you can use
• General sewing kit with small scissors, selection of sewing needles etc.
• Any needle felting kit you may have but Sam will bring this along for you to borrow

You will also need to bring your lunch and a mug!
